Would you like to straighten your smile, minus metal brackets or wires? Invisalign may be an orthodontic treatment option for you. Here, our Calgary orthodontists explain how the Invisalign treatment process works.
If you'd like a straighter smile but don't want to wear traditional metal braces, you might find that Invisalign is the best orthodontic treatment option for you. Here's how the Invisalign system works to straighten your teeth over time.
1. Consultation
You'll start with a consultation with your Calgary orthodontist to begin your Invisalign journey to a straighter smile. At the time of your initial Invisalign consultation, your orthodontist will thoroughly examine your teeth and mouth to determine whether Invisalign is the best orthodontic treatment option for you.
If you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment, your orthodontist will give you a preview of how your smile may look after completing your treatment. If it's decided that Invisalign treatment is not right for you, your orthodontist will tell you why and explain alternative treatment options.
2. Receive your personalized treatment plan
After your consultation, your orthodontist will take detailed scans and/or impressions of your teeth to develop a treatment plan that's tailored to you. You'll receive an Invisalign treatment plan that will outline the steps of your treatment over the next few months.
3. Aligners are custom made for you
Once your treatment plan has been set, the scans and/or impressions of your teeth will be sent to Invisalign's manufacturing facility, where your aligners will be custom-made to fit your specific bite and teeth requirements.
Your Invisalign clear aligners will be made of a thin, flexible plastic material known as SmartTrack®. Invisalign aligners do not contain BPA, BPS, latex, or gluten.
4. Treatment begins
As soon as your aligners are completed and delivered to your orthodontist, you can begin your orthodontic treatment.
Make an appointment with your orthodontist to pick up your aligners. While you're there, your orthodontist will likely make sure that your aligners are properly fitted, demonstrate how to wear them and go over your treatment plan with you in detail.
Any questions you have about Invisalign treatment can be answered by your orthodontist while you are in this appointment.
A series of brief checkups will be scheduled during your treatment, which will allow your orthodontist to keep track of how well you're doing and ensure that your treatment stays on track.
5. Enjoy minimal disruptions
Invisalign should integrate well into your busy lifestyle, no matter how hectic your day-to-day schedule may be! Because your aligners are removable, you shouldn't need to make any significant changes to your diet or at-home oral hygiene routine
6. Live your life!
Your Invisalign clear aligners will be discreet enough that very few people should notice that you're straightening your teeth. So, get out there and smile!
